The New York State Department of Health is investigating allegations that a former staff member/administrator at upstate Emerald South Nursing and Rehabilitation Center molested a patient. Allegations include that the assistant director of nursing was fired after being caught touching a resident inappropriately, and in a separate incident, the same administrator allegedly bit a resident. Three staff members at A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility in Uniondale are on trial for felony charges including criminal negligent homicide and willful violation of health laws, when a patient became disconnected from a ventilator and died.
Prosecutors claim that the three nurses heard alarms indicating that the nursing home resident became disconnected from the machine, but waited nine minutes to respond. Their defense is purportedly that the nurses suffered "alarm fatigue" due to many false alarms previously sounding. LINK to article HERE.
