ssues facing New Yorkers at the New York State Trial Lawyers Association’s (NYSTLA) Lobby Day on May 17, 2016. Attorneys Brett Leitner and Justin Varughese met with numerous prominent New York State Senators and Assembly Members to advocate for the rights of victims who have been injured or mortally wounded due to the negligence or professional malpractice of others. In particular, Attorneys Leitner and Varughese advocated for laws that would further protect the victims of motor vehicle negligence, medical malpractice, nursing home abuse and neglect, and wrongful death. In addition, Leitner Varughese urged lawmakers to pass a bill that would make certain that insurance companies respond to claims promptly and treat their insureds fairly in the handling of claims. They also advocated for the passing of the “Sunshine Law” that calls for transparency on the part of insurance companies by requiring them to open up their books to the legislature so as to justify the insurance companies’ opposition to laws intended to protect their insureds.
