Nurses at NY nursing home arrested for falsifying records; Leitner Varughese continues the fight

LEITNER VARUGHESE continues the fight for victims of nursing home abuse and neglect

PRLog - June 17, 2015 - NEW YORK -- Leitner Varughese PLLC, a New York City law firm whose attorneys have spent years fighting to ensure that the rights of nursing home residents are sufficiently protected, supports the actions of the New York State Attorney General’s Office, which recently accused four nurses of altering records in a scheme to cover up failures in monitoring a disabled patient who reportedly fell and was found the following day on the floor with respiratory failure and fluid in his lungs.

According to the Attorney General’s legal papers, the Director of Nursing at Woodmere Rehabilitation and Health Care Center ordered one of the nurses to "fill in the gaps" in the patient log although she had not worked on the relevant days at issue, and also told nurses to "go home" in an effort to evade the Department of Health investigator, court papers said. According to Brett Leitner, one of the partners of Leitner Varughese, “we, as a society, entrust the care of our most vulnerable citizens, our elderly and infirm, to these nursing homes, and the nursing homes reap financial rewards and are accordingly charged with the duty to properly care for and to protect these citizens and to abide by the federal and state laws and regulations enacted exactly for this purpose.”

Justin Varughese, a partner and one of the firm’s principal trial lawyers, added that “Leitner Varughese is dedicated to advocating for the rights of nursing home residents throughout New York State and our firm will prosecute abuses to the fullest extent of the law and seek commensurate recovery from nursing homes based upon violations of the resident’s rights”.
