The New York State Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is a state agency in New York that is empowered to investigate and prosecute abuse, neglect and mistreatment of residents in nursing homes. However, these residents are at times subject to mistreatment, abuse and/or neglect, often caused by a failure of the nursing staff to follow treatment plans and inadequate or "short" staffing.

Such mistreatment, abuse and neglect may result in injuries including bed sores/pressure ulcers, falls, hip fractures, femur fractures, brain bleeds/injuries, amongst others.
